I converted my old Serendipity blog to NB with the help of a bit of Perl code. Just to play around with it, the perl code is in an article on the right. It is also on my website as a plain text file.

Now I just need to go back and double check some of the formatting, and get on with making some more entries in here.

New Blog

Serendipity, while a great blog software, just did not tickle my geek fancy as much as I had thought it would. So I have decided to go back to my "roots" as it were, back to the cli. I had thought about trying to roll my own setup using Perl and the Templates modules, but... that sounded like work, and NanoBlogger seemed like such an elegant solution.

Who knows, I may even find a way to import my old blog entries, not that there were a lot of them...

10 reasons gay marriage is wrong

I saw this on http://www.pvponline.com today, I had to share it.

10 reasons Gay Marriage is wrong:

  1. Being gay is not natural. And as you know Americans have always rejected unnatural things like eyeglasses, polyester, and air conditioning.
  2. Gay marriage will encourage people to be gay, in the same way that hanging around tall people will make you tall.
  3. Legalizing gay marriage will open the door to all kinds of crazy behavior. People may even wish to marry their pets because, as you know, a dog has legal standing and can sign a marriage contract.
  4. Straight marriage has been around a long time and hasn't changed at all; women are still property, blacks still can't marry whites, and divorce is still illegal.
  5. Straight marriage will be less meaningful if gay marriage were allowed. The sanctity of Britany Spears' 55-hour just-for-fun marriage would be destroyed.
  6. Straight marriages are valid because they produce children. Gay couples, infertile couples, and old people shouldn't be allowed to marry because our orphanages aren't full yet, and the world needs more children.
  7. Obviously gay parents will raise gay children, since straight parents only raise straight children.
  8. Gay marriage is not supported by religion. In a theocracy like ours, the values of one religion are imposed on the entire country. That's why we have only one religion in America.
  9. Children can never succeed without a male and a female role model at home. That's why we as a society expressly forbid single parents to raise children.
  10. Gay marriage will change the foundation of society; we could never adapt to new social norms. Just like we haven't adapted to cars, the service-sector economy, or longer life spans.

Teacher killed while watching television.

This story strikes close to home.

My father asked if this article was referring to my former headmaster, Mr. Eyeington.

Mr. Eyeington was the headmaster of Waterford Kamhlaba where I went to school from 1990-1991.

Benjamin Strautin, my friend and former roommate at Waterford, confirmed that it was indeed our former headmaster that was slain. And also sent me the link to the initial story that he saw back in 2003.

Personally, this calls in to question the statements from people that Islam is a peaceful religion. If this was an isolated incident, then it would be a little different, but more and more these kinds of things are happening.

Rest in Peace Mr. and Mrs. Eyeington, you did touch lives and the world is a better place because you were in it.

B.A.R.D.A. - Government behind closed doors.

It seems that Senator Richard Burr (R-NC) wants to create a new government agency that would be exempt from over site and would grant immunity from liability to drug manufacturers that worked with it.

Does anyone else see a problem with this?!

The law in question: Biodefense and Pandemic Vaccine and Drug Development Act of 2005, or S1873.

The agency to be created: Biomedical Advanced Research and Development Agency.

I for one believe that our government should be doing less, not dreaming up new ways to hand out money to pharmaceutical companies. And even if it was actually necessary to create a new agency to deal with disease and bio-terrorism, WHY would you want to make it so that no one could ask, "What are you doing with this money? What are you working on?".

Please let your senators and representatives know that this is not how we want our country to be run.

The League of Professional System Administrators

Today, the Board of Directors formerly of SAGE, a one time Special Technical Group and now Special Interest Group of USENIX launched a new professional organization for System Administrators.

The League of Professional System Administrators

On the website you can read information pertaining to why this was done, but in a nutshell, USENIX saw SAGE as one thing, and the Board, along with a chunk of the membership, saw it as something else.
